Coaching is all about encouraging a person to start taking action in a positive way now to achieve a better way of life in the future. A life coach doesn’t dwell on the past, that is often what a therapist does, nor will they tell you what to do, which is usually what a mentor will do, nor will they necessarily have the skills that enables them to give technical advice, that is what a consultant may do, so how can a life coach help You?

A life coach has the ability to guide you into realising your own potential and to help you develop that by encouraging you to establish and pursue your own goals and how to utilise your personal assets and attributes to achieve those goals.  They are there for you, assisting you and also holding you accountable for progressing and building on your success, whilst learning from your failures.

Not differentiating between Dreams and Goals

Thinking about our illustration of a journey to represent our business venture, how often have you heard people say something like, “One day I am going to drive right around England to explore the country!” In business terms this is just like saying, ”One day I am going to have a business which is going to make me lots of money!”
Both of these declarations are initially just dreams or ideas and will stay that way until they are first defined and then acted upon. Continue reading

Exactly Where is Your Business Heading?

In our previous discussions we spoke about setting up three specific types of goals. In simple terms these are;

Where Is your Business Heading

 

● Long-term goals
● Mid term goals
● Short-term goals

Using our illustration of a business journey, we could think of our long-term goal as being our destination, the end of our journey. Maybe a mid-term goal would be deciding where we are going to stop for lunch or perhaps to re-fuel. Our short-term goals could simply be to negotiate that next bend, to anticipate the timing on the next set of traffic lights, get in the correct lane at an intersection or to avoid a stray dog crossing the road. Can Meditation Help You Achieve Your Goals?

Guest Blogger Jacqui Torrance challenges us to recognise some of the obstacles that, despite our best intentions, can get in the way when we are endeavouring to work on our goals. Have you ever considered why many top achievers have learnt to make time for themselves and use the powerful tool of meditation to refresh their minds, clear out mental clutter and establish positive thought patterns that lead to action?

Here are her observations:

Does it always seem that something stops you from achieving your goals? Do you find that, no matter how good your intentions, something always prevents you from moving forward in life? Many of us are held back by negative ideas and beliefs that we adopted from parents, guardians or other people of authority. Sometimes we might not even be aware of those beliefs, but they are held deep in our subconscious minds and affect everything that we do.

Many common phrases carry negative and psychologically crippling messages. For example:

  • Money doesn’t grow on trees – suggests that it is very difficult to get money
  • Life is hard and then you die – suggests that life will always be full of hardship and troubles
  • There’s no such thing as a free lunch – suggests that nobody will ever help you without expecting something in return
  • At least you’ve got a job … (even if you don’t enjoy it) – suggests that you should accept your current situation and not try to do anything to improve it

So what can you do about it? Guided meditation can help you to identify negative ideas and beliefs and remove them from your subconscious. It enables you to reprogram yourself with positive thoughts and to view your goals as possible and achievable.

It’s a bit like breaking down a wall. If the wall is blocking the road to success, knock it down! How fast you remove the wall depends on you. You can remove it one brick at a time, or you can get a hammer and smash the wall into pieces. Guided meditation helps puts you back in control.

Are You driven by Motivation?

Does Inspiration, motivation or desperation rule your journey of life?

When we consider our ongoing life or business as a series of journeys, it may well be inspiration that causes us to climb into our car, put the key in the ignition and start the engine. However it is motivation that will keep us driving, keep us steering, keep us changing gear and negotiating bends and hazards until we reach the end of our journey.

Recording Your Goals

 Are your Goals Recorded?

 

According to some authorities the letter ‘R’ as the last letter of the acronym S.M.A.R.T.E.R.  (Goals),  stands for; ‘Resources’. Certainly you will have to allocate some resources to attaining your goals. It could be that you might not have the necessary resources to accomplish them when you first commit to your goals, however one thing to remember is that it is not always imperative that you know just how you are going to reach your goals.
